Neighbourhoods Where We Bake Pies, Share Stories & Say Hello

When I hear stories about neighbours baking pies for one another, children running between homes until the sun goes down, and people knowing they can knock on the door next door, my heart fills with gratitude and nostalgia.

There is something beautiful about that kind of community—simple, welcoming, and timeless. Sometimes, belonging begins with something as simple as knowing your neighbour.

The District is home to wonderful neighbourhoods, each with its own character and stories. I believe we can do more to nurture the connections between the people who live in them—through local events, shared spaces, intergenerational activities, and more opportunities to gather.

As a Councillor, I want to champion initiatives that bring neighbours together, because strong communities are built through shared experiences and genuine relationships.

A great neighbourhood isn’t simply a collection of houses.
It’s a place where people know they belong.

And maybe, if we’re lucky, someone still shows up at your door with a freshly baked pie—just to say welcome or goodbye.
