Maybe you’re like me—you rent while putting money away, hoping that one day you’ll have enough for a down payment and be able to stay right here in the District of North Vancouver.

I think about this often as I watch friends and family move away to places they can afford, even when their first choice would be to stay—to build their lives, raise their families, and eventually retire here.

What can we do differently?

I believe we need to be creative, practical, and open to new approaches—moving reasonable, affordable housing through approvals more efficiently while supporting intergenerational homes, co-op and community housing, accessible rentals, and thoughtfully designed homes at different price points.

The goal isn’t simply to build more homes. It’s to make sure staying in North Vancouver remains a possibility—not just a dream.

There’s no single answer to affordability, but by listening, working together, and being willing to think differently, we can find practical ways forward.
